One day, in a Himalayan village...
What a truly beautiful story of how Kartik and Skye met. We are very excited to share Skye's interview with us as well as these incredible wedding photos, taken by Kartik himself. With just a tripod we can't believe how they have captured the most romantic wedding images. Skye wears our Alaska Silk Maternity wedding Gown.
Where did you meet?
Kartik and I met in the small Himalayan village of Vashist in 2019. I'm Australian, but had been working in East and Southern Africa for the past 10 years and needed a break. I decided to spend 6 months in India and figured a Himalayan village would make for the perfect escape and an ideal spot for some solo time to reflect on where I wanted my life to go next.
I had no knowledge of the area and on my second day I was trying to get a rickshaw to the nearest town to find a supermarket. It was pouring rain and all the rickshaws were full. I figured I would have to make the trek by foot, but then a rickshaw pulled over and a local woman, Tara, told me I could ride with her. When she learned I was looking to buy the ingredients to cook mutter paneer (a local favourite) she was super impressed and said we should cook together one day.
On my first visit to her house, I got lost in the forest and after calling Tara she said that she would come down one path to look for me and send her son down the other. Her son, Kartik, was the one to find me.
Where did you get married and why did you choose that venue?
Kartik and I were married on a beach in Port Melbourne, Australia on March 11th 2023. We decided to have our baby girl in Australia and chose to get married with our feet in the sand and the sea breeze on our faces. We had identified a stunning spot near an old pier where the sunset would be perfect, but when we showed up for the wedding the tide was in so the spot we identified was under water.
In addition, there was a huge ship blocking the view! With 15 minutes to go before the ceremony, we shifted the wedding location to a pier further down the road! Because our family and friends are spread all over the world, we decided to keep our wedding very simple and just have two witnesses present. Thus, making a last-minute change of venue was not a big deal. We wrote our own vows and found a wonderful celebrant who was super relaxed and excited to marry us and include our unborn daughter, Evie, in the ceremony.
Tell us about the dress!
I wore the Alaska Full Length Silk Wedding Gown. I was so delighted when I found the Tiffany Rose website and saw all the incredible reviews from happy brides. I'm not an online clothes shopper at the best of times - always feel I need to try things on - and was thus a bit nervous about getting a wedding dress online. The Alaska Gown immediately caught my eye and after taking my measurements I reached out to customer service to confirm I was ordering the right size. They were incredibly helpful and when my dress arrived, I was absolutely thrilled that it fit perfectly. I will always remember the day it arrived.
I was home alone and when the beautiful box was delivered, I could barely contain my excitement. I tried it on immediately and truly felt like a million bucks. The quality was superb, the fit super flattering, and it was incredibly comfortable. It was perfection and the tears in Kartik's eyes when he first saw me in it suggest he thought it was pretty perfect too.
Do you have any advice for other pregnant brides planning a wedding?
Embrace the precious opportunity to have your little one be part of your special day! The ceremony will unite you all! Keep things simple so you can enjoy every moment of the day and not add any stress to your pregnancy. Choose a quality maternity dress that shows off your bump and makes you feel like the beautiful bride you are.
Any other fun facts to share with us?
Our darling Evie was born on 12th April 2023 and we are boundlessly grateful for her safe arrival. When she is old enough, we can't wait to tell her all about our wedding and show her pictures of her inside mama's belly on the day. Speaking of pictures, all our wedding photos were taken by my husband. Kartik is a wedding photographer in India and so with the support of a trusty tripod, he took all our pictures on the day. Groom and wedding photographer in one! Kartik, Evie and I will be moving to Vashist in October 2023. Our little family is excited by what is ahead.
